Despite concerns over the escalating Israel incursion in the Gaza Strip, oil futures have actually fallen. Recent explosions in a densely populated area north of Gaza City have resulted in devastating consequences, including the flattening of entire apartment buildings and numerous casualties requiring hospitalization.

Analysis of Lower Crude Prices

According to Edward Moya, senior market analyst at foreign-exchange brokerage Oanda Group, the decrease in oil prices can be attributed to two ongoing conflicts that have yet to disrupt crude flows. Moya further explains that while geopolitical tensions typically drive prices higher, the current situation is different due to a significant level of demand destruction. As a result, despite remaining risks to supply flows, the oil market is losing its tightness.
