The U.S. Powerball lottery jackpot has reached an incredible estimated $1 billion after no winning ticket was sold for the latest drawing.
No Winner Yet Again
In Monday’s drawing, none of the tickets matched the white balls with numbers 5, 8, 9, 17, 41, and the red Powerball number 21. The initial jackpot estimate was $900 million.
Seventh Highest Jackpot in U.S. History
The forthcoming drawing on Wednesday will offer the seventh highest jackpot in U.S. history and the third largest for Powerball. Ticket buyers stand a chance to win either $1 billion paid out in yearly installments or a one-time lump sum of $516.8 million before taxes.
Multiple $2 Million Winners
Three lucky people managed to match all five numbers plus the Power Play and won $2 million each. The winning tickets were sold in Arkansas, Georgia, and Texas.
Multiple $1 Million Winners
Additionally, there were five people who matched all five numbers and won $1 million each. These winning tickets were sold in Connecticut, Florida, Kentucky, New York, and Pennsylvania.
The Pursuit of a Huge Prize
The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are incredibly slim, with a chance of 1 in 292.2 million. However, these challenging odds help build up substantial prizes that attract more players. The largest Powerball jackpot to date was a staggering $2.04 billion in November last year.
Prolonged Jackpot Drought
The previous Powerball jackpot winner claimed their prize on April 19, receiving a top prize of nearly $253 million. Since then, there hasn’t been a grand prize winner in the past 38 consecutive drawings. The jackpot will continue to grow until somebody wins it.
Play in Multiple States
Powerball is available in 45 states across the United States, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
